ALLEGORIES & SYMBOLS

Reverend John Woodgate

The use of allegories and symbolism was a common practice that dates back between the 1st and 3rd centuries and continues to be used right up to present day. They were used in ancient times for a couple of reasons. The 1st being that when told in a specific story, the hidden meaning would remain the same and 2nd, it would stand the test of time.  Examples of this today are in movies like Snow White (Adam and Eve, purity, apple, good vs evil) and Toy Story 3, The Holocaust, (Andy is seventeen and about to leave for college. These toys are left behind, just as host nations left behind the Jews as the Third Reich conquered Europe. Woody holds a meeting, where the assembled toy family discusses possible outcomes for their new position in the world. Change a few words and it is the same exact scene at the train station from Roman Polanski’s award winning Holocaust drama The Pianist.

Symbolism on the other hand represents ideas about something, and there are so many symbols in today’s modern world that it is difficult to count how many and the list just keep growing (just look on your messaging app).

So as you see, allegories and symbolism are very much a part of our life.

There is however, a number of books in a one volume series that has been around for millennia. It is unwavering in its purpose to bring Truth and it does so using allegories and symbolism as a handbook for successful living. Most people see it at it as history and believe it at its face value. They choose to believe the story rather than the hidden message and ideas behind it. It has remained hidden for the most part from the world right up to current day.

That one volume I’m referring to is The Bible, it’s many books, and its hidden meanings.

Now don’t freak out here and think, “Oh my God, he’s going to talk about the bible!

Your right, I am. But not in the way perhaps you have looked at it before. It is a Metaphysical book, cover to cover and its meanings have remained hidden to most people over the centuries for the two reasons I mentioned earlier (the hidden meaning would remain the same, and it would stand the test of time).

The Bible is a Metaphysical textbook from cover to cover. In its books, every story is about you and me in one way or another. Names, numbers, cities, all of it has a specific message or meaning either as an allegory or some sort of symbolism and all of it is about you and our life here in this realm.

Let me give you some examples of what I am talking about beginning with Adam and Eve.

Most Christian people believe there was a real place called the Garden of Eden and that Adam and Eve were real people and accept this story at face value. (Blasphemy by Christian accounts for what I am about to tell you).

But let’s look at it Metaphysically. The Garden of Eden is higher consciousness. Adam represents the body, Eve represents the soul (but she is in a naïve state to both good and evil having just been born into truth consciousness). Every body has a soul and so is the case here with Adam and Eve (he the body and her, the soul). The snake represents limitation.  The apple represents a lower or negative thought. Eve is tempted by the apple (lower, negative thought), given by the snake (limited beliefs), she gives the apple to Adam (body) and the result is they are cast out of Eden (higher consciousness) into lower consciousness and now suffer from their error in judgment. Every body has a soul and this is the lesson being given in this allegory.

So the moral of the story is: When we are tempted by negative thoughts or conditions and we allow these negative ideas into our consciousness we are then limiting our soul in the body and as a result, move into lower consciousness (we experience fear, doubt, uncertainty and the like).

Now ask yourself, have you ever allowed  someone or something to enter your consciousness that has brought you trouble and caused you to loose your footing in life, or made you doubt or loose the truth about who you are? This is the story of your and my life at some point or another. This is the situation with Adam and Eve and you and I.

Of course the point of the story is not to do what Adam and Eve did. In fact, when faced with adversity we are to turn to God (higher consciousness, truth, prayer, etc.) to keep us on the straight and narrow.

Like I said: Allegories and Symbols!

Here are some other keys to help unravel the mystery of the bible:

Change the word Lord to (Law) in the bible and it becomes an entirely different read.

“I will call on the name of the Lord (Law).”

“Jesus is Lord. Pure Consciousness (Truth) is Law. (our natural state of being).

“Then the children of Israel (you and I) did evil (error in thinking) in the sight of the LORD or (Law), and served the Baals (lower nature).”

Israel always represents you and I in the Bible, everywhere, every time.

Any woman or woman’s name in the Bible represents the Soul, your soul, my soul.

And there is so much more!

I hope by now you see the significance of how important the bible is in guiding the way to a more serene, knowledgeable state of being once it is understood in it’s correct context.

Like the quote on the header of my book at the beginning of chapter 2 “Know The What Discover The How” states:

“The common people sin through ignorance.” Leviticus 4:27

Here’s your chance to give up being common!

Until next time,

Rev. John
